KidIT Story
In 2015, KidIT was born from Yulia Tarasova's Silicon Valley experience and her passion for bringing tech education to Ukraine. Alongside her partner, Nadia Andrushchenko, they embarked on a mission to create a new paradigm of tech education for children, starting as young as 5. Their goal was to shift children from being passive consumers to active creators and to lay the foundation for a product mindset.
KidIT aimed for more than just tech education; it sought to instill a global mindset in its young participants. Understanding the importance of validation and recognition, KidIT provided opportunities for children to showcase their projects at major IT and gaming conferences, receiving invaluable feedback from industry professionals.
In September 2015, the first KidIT classes sparked excitement in two Ukrainian cities, laying the foundation for what was to come. By 2017, KidIT had blossomed into a franchise program, spreading its wings to 15 cities across Ukraine.
2017 was also the year when KidIT began showcasing its young innovators at major conferences worldwide. The journey commenced on October 27th at Casual Connect Kyiv, followed by a milestone moment on January 24th, 2018, at Casual Connect Los Angeles, where a KidIT "dragon-student" was honored during the Indie Games Prize ceremony.
As KidIT continued to evolve, it ventured into new territories. On October 3rd, 2018, KidIT made its mark at Casual Connect Serbia. Later that year, on December 10th, it captivated audiences at Games Gathering Kyiv.
Recognition for KidIT's impact came in 2018, with accolades including Top Startup 2018 by NaChasi.com and Top Franchise 2018 by Franchising Full Cycle. Additionally, it was named one of the Top 25 educational projects by IT-mama.
The journey of KidIT expanded internationally in September 2019, with the opening of KidIT Spain in Granada.
A few months before, on May 3rd, 2019, a new chapter unfolded as KidIT ventured into Cyprus, introducing a groundbreaking social model of family tech education.
This was a completely new model of functioning—a social format of the project, free to all families, co-funded by the biggest IT companies in Cyprus that wanted to support the development of family tech and edutech on the island.
KidIT Cyprus started in Limassol and further expanded to two more cities, Nicosia and Larnaca. Among the partners are notable names such as Techisland, Exness, GDEV, paybl., Space 307, Wargaming, Servers.com, and TheSoul Publishing.
As KidIT continued to make waves, it participated in a series of international conferences, showcasing the talents of its young learners. These included:
- May 21, 2019 - Cyprus IT-Forum, Cyprus
- January 27, 2020 - White Nights, Amsterdam
- October 19, 2022 - Linq Conference, Cyprus
- June 1, 2023 - GDCy Fest, Cyprus
- November 21, 2023 - Youth Tech Fest, Nicosia, Cyprus
- May 30, 2024 - Reflect
In addition to these conferences, KidIT organized Kids Games Hackathons, excursions to IT companies (such as Toonbox animation studio and Wargaming), and many other impactful events.
Throughout its operation, KidIT has aimed to develop the hearts of children by doing good for society with the help of technology. The kids created projects on social topics like “Make Cyprus Clean” and “I'm Changing the World for the Better.” They also created an arcade game machine ("Love is Action") and gifted it to the Larnaca refugee center. Our Ninjas held masterclasses for kids with special needs (autistic children and deaf children). We conducted more than 100 workshops on digital literacy, coding, and cyber security at schools, and translated and published in Ukrainian the first coding book for the youngest, "Hello Ruby: Adventures in the World of Programming."
In 2023, we became finalists in the Social Driver nomination by Techisland Awards. As KidIT sets its sights on the horizon, its mission persists, driven by the commitment to expand across Europe and the Middle East, facilitating a harmonious relationship between the younger generation and technology. This fosters not only the joy of learning but also the profound potential for social impact.
